Can I start my very first 'view from the chair' by wishing you all a very safe and hopefully prosperous new year. I would also like to thank the previous chair Simon Hatson for his tireless efforts in not only supporting and guiding the offshore Group but also for developing a robust committee that comprises of members from the differing offshore industries that reflect the challenging environments we all operate in.
On 18th January Simon and I had the privilege of presenting to the North Wales Branch in Mold. Our presentations were based on worker engagement and risk management in an offshore environment and were well received and some interesting debates followed. Thank you to Rachel and the committee for making us feel so welcome.
In February and following a kind invite from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) after our Dundee conference, a number of committee members will be travelling to the MAIB offices in Southampton. It is always interesting to understand the challenges that the regulator community face and the offshore group as part of the IOSH WORK 22 strategy will be striving to further develop our already strong relationship with the MAIB.
Planning for our 2018 conference is already well under way. Following the successes of the 2016 and 2017 conferences we have spent time reviewing the feedback and examining what we can learn from previous experiences. It's not too late though, if you have any suggestions in terms of venues or content don't hesitate to get in touch. I am really keen to listen and just as importantly act upon the views of our membership, so your views and ideas can really make a difference please contact our Relationship Manager, Julie Littlejohns.
Finally I am proud and honoured to be the Chair of the Offshore Group and greatly look forward to meeting with you all in the near future.
Mark Jenkins, Chair
