Branch AGM nominees

The following nominees are eligible for election to the Branch committee.

Name: Sarah Pickup
Committee Role: Committee Member
Supporting statement: I am a chartered psychologist and currently a graduate member of IOSH. My interests lie very much within the application of the behavioural sciences to influence health, safety and wellbeing (HSW). I completed my PhD with the University of Sunderland and Nissan in 2017 and I am currently a senior lecturer in HSW, teaching masters level students. I am also very research active working with organisations in a broad range of topics within the HSW agenda. I am very passionate about HSW and I am currently in a position where I have the opportunity to influence the next generation of HSW graduates. Joining the local branch will allow me to extend those spheres of influence through working more closely with IOSH as well as local organisations. With my knowledge, skills and experiences and passion for all things HSW related, I believe I can contribute positively to the local branch in a number of ways, such as (but not limited to); speaking at events, support plans for meetings and projects that mirror the needs of businesses in HSW matters, helping the organisation remain up to date with research and new advances, creating and sharing links and good practice. Overall, I would find being a committee member of the Tyne and Wear Branch rewarding and fulfilling creating opportunities not only to contribute to the branch but personally it will provide further opportunities for my own development within the field.

Name: Jen Maddison
Committee Role: Treasurer
Supporting statement: I have been pleased to serve as treasurer for the last 4 years and would like to continue this role. The committee has steered the branch through severe budget cuts in 2018/19 and still delivered an excellent programme of informative meetings with knowledgeable speakers. There are more changes to come in 2019/20 with control of branch monies being returned to The Grange. I feel that my experience will help ensure the smooth running of the branch finances for another year.

Name: James Thompson
Committee Role: Committee Member
Supporting statement: I have been an active member of the branch and committee for a number of years delivering events and presentations at the rate of 2-3 per year. I have supported members and the committee throughout and have been an approachable figure to assist with branch issues and needs.

Name: Andy Robertson
Committee Role: Vice Chair
Supporting statement: This will be a continuation into my second year as Vice Chair, supporting the Branch Chair in carrying out the strategy of both IOSH and the Branch.

Name: Gary Dowell
Committee Role: Chair
Supporting statement: Re-nomination of current role within the branch.

Name: William Miller
Committee Role: Committee Member
Supporting statement:

Name: Allyson Savage
Committee Role: Committee Member
Supporting statement: I currently sit on the committee at this branch and would like to continue my role so am re-submitting my nomination.

Name: Joe Elliott
Committee Role: Committee Member
Supporting statement: I have been a member of Tyne and Wear Branch Executive for over ten years now and continue to enjoy participation in the planning and delivery of Branch events. For about the past six years I have acted first in the role of Branch Education and Development Adviser (BEDA) and latterly the EDA role when these were disconnected from the branches. In that role I have carried on the work initiated by the previous postholder (Tony Bough). This has involved regular seminars and more individual work to support our members to achieve Chartered status with the Institution. Tony and I have probably supported tens if not hundreds of members through to Chartered status and I continue to find this work very rewarding. I would very much like to keep working with the Branch locally to continue to contribute and support the Branch's work.
