Letter from the Chair

Mid Shires Chair Monthly Message – April

Thanks very much to Mark Ashby of the HSE Construction Division at our last Branch meeting. He gave a great insight into the HSE’s health priorities, in particular the current work on prevention of work-related stress within the construction industry.

We also had our annual seminar ‘The hot topic: Fire safety’ in March and working in collaboration with the IOSH Fire Risk Management Group it was a huge success. The day was fully booked and with a great buzz around the room from the start it proved to be a very successful seminar. My thanks to all those that help put the day together and to those who attended for their participation in the workshops and the general discussion, networking and debate, it was fantastic!

We now move (literally) into a new era, with our monthly Branch Meetings being held at a different venue from this month. The new venue is:

The Draycote Hotel
London Road
CV23 9LF

We also have a new start time to the meeting:

The doors will open as before at 6pm, tea/coffee and biscuits will be available with time for networking until 6.30pm. The meeting will start earlier at 6.30pm and finish at 8pm.

The meetings will still be held on the evening of the second Thursday of the month (apart from the summer break in August).

Our Branch Meeting on the 11th April 2019 will be a ‘Legal Update’ with Hayley Saunders, Partner Shoosmiths LLP. The presentation will provide an update on legal developments over the past 12 months including an update on personal liability, recent cases under the sentencing guidelines and focus areas for the HSE.

Hayley is a specialist regulatory criminal defence lawyer advising leading companies, directors and individuals on all aspects of regulatory compliance across a range of sectors including retail, food, manufacturing and construction.

A quick reminder that we are still running a 30-minute CPD/IPD round table discussion before our Branch meeting, allowing members to share their experiences and provide support for each other. A Mid Shires committee member will be available to chair the meeting from 17.30 until 18.00 and any member with CPD or IPD question is welcome.

We always aim to provide you the members with the topics that you wish us to cover and if you have a specific question that you would like some advice on you can always take advantage of our Q&A session at the start of each meeting.

If you’re new to our meetings, you’re especially welcome and we hope that you’ll enjoy our friendly environment. Whether you’re a visitor or regular attendee at our branch activities, we thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you.

Best Regards,

Roger Ward
